Why Chris Will Never Get Another Date

I was working on the "Culture and State" conference last night until about 1:30 or 2:00 am. I saved my file, and was about to quit Illustrator when I thought better of it. As some of you will know, I'm an Illustrator junkie. My little brother had bought a bunch of Dr. Who DVDs yesterday, so feeling rather inspired, I tracked down a very crappy quality GIF (available here) of the classic 1960s logo and threw it into Illustrator so I could build it from scratch. Behold!

Still needs a little bit of tweaking, but it's almost perfect. Did I mention that it was 3:30 am when I finished? Now to put it into a glorious 1152 x 870 desktop with Daleks (see previous post about t-shirts) and Cybermen*!!!

I'm sick, which has put a crimp into my plan to do large amounts of exhausting design work. I never used to get sick this much, either I'm getting old, or there's a correlation between getting 4 hours of sleep and illness.

Worse yet, I've been having "perpetual dreams". My brother and I were discussing this coming back from Vieanna - dreams which don't end. It's as though there's some task which needs completion, some item of critical importance which persists despite one's best efforts. Even if I wake up completely and walk around, when I go back to bed, the dream continues, but not in any sort of linear way. It continues repeating itself. I can't really explain it except to say that these perpetual dreams always continue, and continue in such a critical way as to make for terrible sleep.

Perhaps my brain is broken. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Classifieds Dilemma

After watching the hockey game at Kelly's house, I dropped off my RSVP card for my friend's wedding. It was then that I realized two things:

1) I need a date for the wedding
2) The wedding is on the 23rd, and I'm supposed to be in Halifax in "late May".

Crap.

I took care of the date thing though:

I left the studio late today with Ian discussing the print process, and the intricacies of silver colour assignment in an offset context. I caught my bus and sat down in the midst of what seemed to be a rather humourous conversation between the driver and a passenger. The driver was relating, with a great sense of animation, about how she had had to deal with a mischievous child. Snippets of the conversation sounded like: "And I look at him and say: "What are you doing?" and he just sits down and looks up at me and he's like "Nothing, nothing.". I tell you!"

It was only after a couple of minutes when the driver said: "I came out of the bathroom, and he's got his paws up on the night table..." that I realized that she was talking about a pet, and not some bratty kid. It struck me, at that moment, that there must come a time in some people's life when they begin to see their pets as family, as friends, and most importantly as human.

I wonder: are these the same people who dress their dogs up in little sweaters? Who buy Christmas presents for their cat?

Here's one last thing: I scanned, edited, colour-corrected and made ready for web four photographs from London. Page should be online tomorrow sometime.

Oh oh oh!!! Check out Sneakery.com tomorrow, or in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Something big's going down.

Sanskrit

I seem to be posting about once a week - not quite as frequently as I had hoped. As such, here is the first of my professional photographs from India. Sanskrit typography from about 1100 AD.
