New lettering: Prandicle

I recently contributed some lettering for Karen To's The Dead Words project. It's a great idea: designer and illustrators render ancient words that have long since fallen out of fashion. Go check out all the words – there's some fantastic work!

Karen assigned me the word prandicle, a word with roots in the Stuart period which means a small meal. After sketching out some possible executions, I settled on the following:

The lettering is old-fashioned and archaic but it's placed within a modern setting. I felt this was appropriate, given the nature of the Karen's project.

I didn't record much of my process but I did put together this animated GIF of some of digitisation.
